To support population research at UCLA, CCPR maintains major demographic datasets in ready-to-use formats, provides access to data through the CCPR and ISR Data Archives, supports the preparation of data for public use, maintains a database about data from developing countries and provides a facility for secure data analysis. ReadyData services are provided to CCPR affiliates to reduce the costs of doing high quality empirical research in the population sciences.
ReadyData provides affiliates with access to commonly used population survey and census data in a format that is convenient for statistical analysis. All datasets are stored in ready-to-use labeled Stata files on CCPR Windows Domain (DFS) along with electronic documentation. To get to ReadyData, please log on to your local CCPR Windows workstation and navigate to the auto-populated R:\Data DFS file space. Datasets are added to ReadyData on the basis of affiliate demand. Datasets that are or are likely to be widely used by affiliates or will be intensively used for extramurally funded research projects are good candidates for the ReadyData archive. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to suggest that a dataset be added.
Files in the ReadyData archive are structured in as intuitive and consistent way as possible. Some datasets are available in products other than Stata. If you want data in a different format, please email email@example.com. We do our best to keep datasets up to date. If you think datasets are not up to date, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you need older versions of datasets, please let us know and we will extract them from our archive.
Some datasets such as CPS can be used without prior permission. Other datasets, such as HRS and AHEAD require you to first register as a user on their own web site prior to using the data. Current hosted datasets are listed below:
Add Health Public-Use Datasets
This data is available on your CCPR Windows workstation in the R:\Data\US Datasets space for use by CCPR affiliates. In order to gain access to the data, you must submit the user agreement to the CCPR Helpdesk. The form is available HERE. In addition to providing name, signature, email, and date under “Research Staff”, please provide department, work location, project title, and purpose for the data.
Unicon Research - Current Population Survey
CCPR has purchased CPS Utilities for the following datasets:
- Annual Social and Economic Supplement (also known as March Supplement, formerly know as Annual Demographic File and Income Supplement)
- Earner Study (Outgoing Rotations)
- Basic Historical
This data is available on your CCPR Windows workstation in the R:\Data\US Datasetsspace for use by CCPR affiliates. In order to gain access to the data, you must have an account on the CCPR Windows Domain.
Please note that while we try to keep these data updated, each user should confirm that any updates provided by Unicon are reflected in the data. In particular, users should regularly consult the "News" section on the Unicon website . If you have any questions, find any datasets that need updating, or cannot find a dataset, please submit an email indicating the issue.
Health and Retirement Survey (Public-Use)
A Longitudinal Study of Health, Retirement, and Aging
Sponsored by the National Institute on Aging
This data is available on your CCPR Windows workstation in the R:\Data\US Datasets space for use by CCPR affiliates. In order to gain access to the data, you must personally register on the HRS website. Once you have done so, please send the following email, after carefully reading the text.
Please note that while we try to keep these data updated, each user should confirm they are using the most recent version by comparing with the HRS website's data alerts and updates. If you find an old version, please submit an email indicating which data needs to be updated.
