SUMMARY:CU Workshop Announcement: Advancing social science research on abortion
DESCRIPTION:Advancing social science research on abortion: demographic methods and perspectives – CU Population Center (colorado.edu) \nDates: December 6-8\, 2023\nSteering Committee: Leslie Root\, Amanda Stevenson\, Jane Menken\, Sara Yeatman\, Stefanie Mollborn\, and Katie Genadek\nLocation: Hybrid\, online and in-person at CU Population Center\, Institute of Behavioral Science\, University of Colorado Boulder \nSince the Supreme Court ended the era of the federally protected right to abortion with their decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health in June 2022\, there has been increasing interest in the social sciences in studying abortion and related topics in reproductive health. \nWe are pleased to announce a workshop for graduate students and early-career researchers who are newer to the field of reproductive health and committed to advancing the social science of abortion in the U.S. using demographic methods. The target audience for this workshop has a strong quantitative background\, some familiarity with demography\, and relatively little experience working with abortion data. \nThe meeting will feature: \n\ntraining in demographic methods that can be applied to abortion research.\ntalks by leading scholars presenting exciting new directions in demographic research on abortion.\nopportunities to engage in scholarly community through a workshop Slack and virtual follow-up.\nmeetings where small groups of participants can develop and present research.\n\nThe target audience for this workshop are graduate students and early-career researchers with a strong quantitative background\, some familiarity with demography\, and relatively little experience working with abortion data. \nSpace for the workshop is limited. \nThe workshop application is available here. We aim to make decisions by mid-October\, so for full consideration\, please submit by Monday\, October 9ᵗʰ. \nThis workshop is funded by the University of Colorado\nPopulation Center (CUPC)\, and further benefits from\nadministrative\, research\, and/or computing support\nthrough the CUPC\, funded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver\nNational Institute of Child Health & Human Development of the National Institutes of Health (P2CHD066613).
