To be eligible to enter into a contract, researchers must have an IRB-approved security plan for handling and storing sensitive data and sign a data-use contract agreeing to keep the data confidential.
Procedure. To get access to the restricted-use contractual Add Health data, prospective users must read and complete a multi-part contract. A copy of the contract in Adobe portable document format (pdf) or rich text format (rtf) is available for downloading. Applicants are advised to read the entire package and return all parts, fully completed, to Add Health. Applicants must also submit a $750 non-refundable fee, made payable to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The fee covers administrative and handling charges, entitles users to four hours of telephone consultation with Add Health staff, and pays for trips to user sites by Add Health staff to confirm compliance with the data-use contract.
