CDL Data Management Planning Tool

Hello all,
Recently UCoP or the California Digital Library announced an online data management planning tool. “The University of California and several other major research institutions have partnered to develop the DMPTool, a flexible online application to help researchers generate data management plans. https://dmp.cdlib.org/

The Social Science Data Archive think the DMPT will be helpful to people who have never created a data management plan and who have very simple research projects. Some areas where  researchers will need additional assistance are 1) privacy and confidentiality during and after the project, 2) file formats, 3) and the use of mixed methods of data collection.

UCLA is a member of the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).  There are specific ways to prepare a data management plan when depositing and using data at ICPSR.  The Data Archive is the liaison to ICPSR and one of the roles we play is to guide researchers with quantitative and qualitative data being used from or deposited to ICPSR.    There are also guidelines for these areas at ICPSR  http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/dmp/resources.jsp This resource area covers quantitative, qualitative and natural science data management planning and provides numerous examples researchers can use as templates.
