Administrator Position – US Census Bureau Research Data Center, Penn State University

A position for an Administrator at the Pennsylvania State University Census Bureau Research Data Center (RDC), University Park, PA, will be filled in spring 2015. The RDC is a secure computing lab in Paterno Library on the University Park campus. In this lab, researchers who have received approval for research projects have access to restricted demographic, economic, and health data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The Administrator will work on site at the Penn State RDC and is crucial to the daily

operation of the RDC.

 

The person in this position will assist researchers from many disciplines, including economics,

geography, health policy, sociology, and demography who are conducting research projects in the RDC. The main duties of the Administrator are to serve as a liaison between the Census Bureau and PSU with responsibilities in the following areas:

 

(a) helping PSU researchers develop successful proposals for RDC based research projects,

(b) overseeing the daily operation of the RDC secure lab,

(c) coordinating with the Census Bureau on matters relating to the RDC secure lab and research

projects being conducted in the lab,

(d) helping researchers with disclosure avoidance statements, and

(e) a range of other administrative responsibilities.

 

The position will be full-time. The candidate should have a Master’s degree in economics, demography, sociology, or a related social science field. Familiarity with social science research methodology and experience with census data is desirable.
