The School of Education at Aarhus University invites applications for an assistant professorship in quantitative method.

The assistant professorship is a three-year, fixed-term appointment based at Aarhus Campus.

The position will be affiliated with the department that forms the framework of the Master’s degree programme in educational sociology.

We are looking for someone with knowledge of research in the field of educational sociology who can contribute to the theoretical and methodical development of the subject.

The successful applicant should also be able to document research qualifications at PhD level or the equivalent within the field of quantitative research methods.

The assessment will attach importance to the research and teaching qualifications of applicants within the area covered by this position.

 

The position

Research
Applicants must be able to document research qualifications at international level within several of the following areas in the perspective of educational sociology:

  • Experience of preparing and carrying out quantitative research design
  • Experience and knowledge of mixed methods
  • Experience and knowledge of register- and survey-based studies
  • Experience and knowledge of test-based studies.

Education

Applicants must be able to document the competence to teach and provide supervision on the Master’s degree programme in educational sociology, and to contribute to qualifying and developing the teaching offered at Bachelor’s and Master’s level.

Knowledge exchange

We expect applicants to have an interest in (and preferably experience of) knowledge exchange with society in relation to this field of research.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have:

  • Documentation of good communication abilities (both oral and written) in Danish and English
  • Research qualifications equivalent to PhD level in a subject related to the position being advertised
  • Teaching qualifications which are relevant in relation to the Master’s degree programme in educational sociology
  • Documentation of their ability to collaborate and form part of an enthusiastic cross-disciplinary research environment and teams of teachers.

Owing to the increasingly international focus of the degree programmes, applicants must be able to teach in English. If the successful applicant is not fluent in Danish, he or she will be expected to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.

In addition to these requirements, it is an advantage if applicants have experience of interdisciplinary cooperation, as well as the desire and competence to play a whole-hearted role in an interdisciplinary and enthusiastic research environment.

  • An account of the applicant’s teaching qualifications and any experience of the organisation of degree programmes and management of degree programmes or courses

  • A short explanation of any periods involving leave of absence.

Place of work
School of Education, Aarhus Campus, Niels Juels Gade 84, DK 8200 Aarhus N, Denmark.

Most of the work will take place at the Aarhus Campus, but there will also be teaching at the Emdrup Campus, and there will furthermore be meetings in Copenhagen, which will involve travel.
