Gerontological Society of America: Open Access Editor in Chief
Open Access Editor in Chief Search
The Gerontological Society of America Call for Applications
The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) announces the search for editor in chief of a new journal to be launched in 2016 and published, alongside The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Social Sciences and Psychological Sciences, The Gerontologist, and Public Policy & Aging Report, by Oxford University Press. As a fully open access journal, it will consider de novo submissions, as well as high-quality submissions out of the scope of the other GSA journals, both pre-review and post-review.
Editorial Scope
The new journal will provide a global forum for the rapid publication of a broad range of research findings in a fully open access, online environment. This modern gerontology journal will reflect the broad diversity of the GSA, with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary research. Fully peer reviewed and held to the same high standards of rigor as other GSA publications, the new journal will support the international community of gerontological experts by providing a venue for articles that further the understanding of all aspects of aging.
In addition to the subject areas and types of articles already published in existing GSA journals, the new journal will reach across boundaries and welcome areas of research underserved by current GSA publications, as well as emerging fields of research. The digital-only nature of the journal will allow for freedom in experimentation with new article types and other ways to serve the communication needs of the research community.
Applications and Nominations
GSA’s Publications Committee has appointed a search subcommittee to review applications and nominations, which will be due via e-mail to jlieu@geron.org by July 15, 2015. Short-listed candidates will be informed of their status by July 31, 2015, and will be interviewed by the Search Subcommittee between August 1 and August 15, 2015. The successful candidate will be announced shortly thereafter in early September, with duties to commence during the fourth quarter of 2015, including assembling a team of associate editors and an editorial board, training on the web-based peer-review system, coordinating with the editors in chief of the other GSA journals, developing policies in accordance with the scope statement reviewed by the GSA Publications Committee and approved by Council, and soliciting articles for launch in January 2016. The editorship is a volunteer position. Candidates must be dedicated to building a premier scientific journal and a new voice in the field.
Please provide your CV and a 1- or 2-page letter of intent that explains why you are interested in this position, outlines your availability to devote considerable time and energy to launch this new journal, and includes information addressing the following criteria:
1. Academic and Publishing Record: Evidence of achievement and robust list of publications in relevant fields.
2. Editorial Experience: Experience as an editor, associate editor, or editorial board member of an indexed journal in a related field.
3. Interest in Experimentation With New Publishing Method and Technologies: Your perspective on and experience with open access journals, and your ideas for building GSA’s new title, as a digital-only journal, into a valuable cutting-edge extension of GSA’s journal program.
