Birmingham-Southern College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology to join the Department of Political Science, Economics, and Sociology beginning in fall 2016. We seek candidates who can contribute to our strengths in environmental and pre-health education. We are especially interested in candidates who are able to support and assist in the development of an undergraduate public health program. Other substantive areas are open but might include social stratification/mobility, gender/sexuality, racial/ethnic inequality, or globalization/global issues. Candidates should also have a strong interest in teaching Introduction to Sociology and in contributing to our general education curriculum. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary programs—Global and Comparative Studies, Urban Environmental Studies, Human Rights and Conflict Studies, and Gender and Women’s Studies. A PhD in Sociology is required by the time of appointment.
