The Department of Social Medicine, School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in health disparities/health equity at the Assistant to Associate Professor rank. This position will be supported through the UNC Center for Health Equity Research and the Department of Social Medicine. Review of applications will begin September 15th and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2016. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or MD. We are looking for individuals with advanced training in a humanities, public health or social science discipline, including but not limited to epidemiology, health services research, demography, economics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, geography, gender studies, and cultural studies. To complement the Department of Social Medicine and Center for Health Equity Research’s existing faculty, applicants for this position could have a focus on research to improve the health of rural communities, racial and ethnic minorities, immigrant populations, persons with lower socioeconomic status, or sexual minorities. We also welcome applicants conducting research on issues of health justice and on issues of global/international health equity that have relevance for U.S. communities. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to and excellence in interdisciplinary teaching and research, and skills in program building to facilitate scholarly exchange and research collaboration. An active program of scholarship and publication is essential. For more senior scholars a track record of externally funded research and for more junior scholars, clear potential and prospects for attracting extramural funding are important.
