Position Description:

The Division of Health Policy and Administration (HPA) in the School of Public Health (SPH) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.

The successful candidate should have a research background in health policy or health services research with a focus on aging across diverse populations, especially those from underrepresented groups. The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in or closely related to any of the following fields: health policy, public health, health informatics, health economics, or behavioral and social sciences. A strong record of teaching, research, and experience with extramurally funded research grants is expected commensurate with career stage.This position is part of a UIC Chancellor-sponsored Cluster Hire initiative entitled “Health Promotion for Racially and Ethnically Diverse Older Adults.” This initiative offers opportunities for collaboration with other faculty in the UIC Cluster specializing in related research in Disability and Human Development, Physical Therapy, and Community Health Sciences. In addition to holding a faculty appointment in HPA and being part of the UIC Aging Cluster, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the Center for Research on Health and Aging (CRHA). Housed in SPH, CRHA is a campus-wide focal point for research on aging at UIC. CRHA facilitates the work of researchers who address complex questions about population health challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective. CHRA seeks to understand and reduce racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in the prevalence and burdens of chronic disease among older adults. CRHA is home to a Roybal Center for Translational Research on Aging, which has been funded by the National Institute on Aging/NIH since 1998 and has been a national and international leader in the development, testing, and translation of evidence-based health promotion programs for older adults. Additionally, the UIC campus-wide Institute for Health Research and Policy houses a Resource Center for Minority Aging (RCMAR), newly funded by the National Institute on Aging/NIH, to continuously develop research and mentoring infrastructure for early-career faculty.

HPA, one of the four Divisions in UIC SPH, is an interprofessional, transdisciplinary group of educators, researchers, practitioners, students, and staff dedicated to seeking solutions to real-world problems and improving people’s lives in Chicago and around the world. Much of what we teach and undertake as research is focused on tackling the underlying drivers of health inequity in order to formulate evidence-based policies to help promote health equity. HPA represents a variety of disciplines, including public policy, health economics, health services, political science, psychology, organizational behavior, public health management, public health informatics, public health practice, and law.
