Carolyn Diamond
Economics
Carolyn Diamond is a 1st-year PhD student in UCLA‘s Department of Economics program, primarily interested in research on inequality, gender, and urban economics. Prior to joining UCLA’s program, Carolyn received her Master‘s of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics, and wrote her thesis analyzing the gendered effects on wages of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. After receiving her Master’s degree, she worked as a research assistant for Professor Daniel Sturm at the Centre for Economic Performance, working on projects exploring workplace and residence location choices in cities over the course of the lifecycle and how they respond to different major life events such as marriage and childbirth, the effects of introducing new transportation infrastructure in cities, and neighborhood effects on housing prices in response to bombing destructing during World War II in London. Carolyn is excited to start her PhD at UCLA and continue exploring these ideas and other related topics during her time at UCLA and the CCPR.
Anoushka Patel
Sociology
Anoushka is a first-year PhD student in Sociology at UCLA. She is interested in demography, the sociology of medicine and science, and gender. Her previous research includes work using the Chitwan Valley Family Study to explore various research outcomes around health and education in collaboration with her colleagues at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. She aims to continue exploring population health outcomes, with a particular interest in expanding into maternal and reproductive health. Prior to UCLA, Anoushka received a B.S. in Statistics and a B.A. in South Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago (2020). She also worked as a Strategy Consultant in the Life Sciences and Global Health industries at Accenture.
